“She was fascinated with words. To her, words were things of beauty, each like a magical powder or potion that could be combined with other words to create powerful spells” – Dean Koontz
Not like they “could be combined” for powerful spells, this section is my ever-growing collection of proof they can be.
The experience of crafting each spell and blessing is unique.
Each attempt is a new journey, a new cycle to be explored, a new experience to grow and learn from. It’s the chance for me to explore the lessons the world has made available to all of us, with the Goddess granting my mind clarity of intent, my eye keen insight and deftly guiding my hands.

Making Magic
“Intent matters in all matters of import. When intent is assumed, magic is spoiled. When intent is attuned, magic is unlocked.” – A Witch Named Z
As I said, each attempt is a new experience, but as a creature of habit, there’s certainly a general process used to consistently find new spells, blessings, insights and other experiences to otherwise advance my craft. For some of the more personal or impactful spells I will share any specifics of crafting, but assume otherwise a close following of this ritual:
Preparation: I cleanse myself and all materials with sage before setting out to nature or beginning work at home. Nature is the best place to attune, and there are a number of locations I typically haunt, though I’m always on the hunt for new magical spaces. (Find a magical spot? I’d love to see/hear about it!!)
Once I arrive at my destination (or the energy of my home altar is right) I begin a crafted soundscape (not sponsored-I genuinely LOVE this app) and light incense or release a similar scent depending on what the space can sustain, while establishing and focusing on intent. Once all elements and artifacts are in place, my body and mind in harmony, I begin;
First I will lay a spread of cards, the cards used depends on the intent, my instinct, where I’m drawn, how long it’s been since I used that deck that I absolutely loved when I first got it but then for some reason forgot about it until just now.
Ahem…
I lay a spread with either Tarot or Oracle cards, sometimes both, and will perform a reading. While I perform this reading my eyes remain fixed on the cards, but my hands record in my tome the words on the surface of my mind. The common themes, the obvious insights, the subconscious noise behind the reading, I let my hands dutifully scribe this background noise away so that my mind can hone in, to seek the deeper magic, grasp it, seize it and contain it.
This process continues until one of two things happens, I find the magic, or I run out of time, as while hiking down a mountain by moonlight is beautiful, it’s also incredibly dangerous. At this point I take whatever magic has been collected through my reading and the fun really starts.
Taking the magic and drawing in any remnants of energy nearby, I begin working to find the spell using the page my hands have scribed as a cipher. Call me old fashioned, but I believe all proper spells rhyme and so this phase can prove a challenge. It is awful when I know the words to say, but not how to make it rhyme; but oh is it a beautiful struggle.
Through this process I often write powerful magical lines, that are then forcibly ripped from a spell that cannot support it. Tragic- until the intent in these lines and the magic within can be saved and transformed into a blessing or affirmation.
So even when the full spell escapes me, the most powerful line I’ve ever written ends with orange or I have to spend hours upon hours to write five simple lines, my intent remains to utilize every drop of magic the Goddess has seen fit to grant me; I relish the opportunity to experience insight after insight, constantly find new ways to help, to heal, to uplift and to continue my unending quest to bring about a brighter reality for us all. One card at a time.
Stay Magical
